Chapter 6 - The Meeting Behind the Glass

General counsel arrived within minutes with corporate security.

Mara was escorted to a private conference room.

Ethan demanded to speak with me alone.

I refused.

The audit chair joined us behind the glass wall while stunned employees watched from the open office.

Ethan began with denial.

Blackridge was legitimate.

Mara’s brother was only a nominee director.

The lake house was intended for executive retreats.

The payments to Mara’s family were performance compensation.

Then the evidence folder opened on the conference-room screen.

Each explanation collapsed beneath its own documents.

The so-called retreat property had one bedroom.

Corporate records listed no approved purchase.

Messages showed Ethan calling it “our place” when writing to Mara.

Blackridge invoices were created from Mara’s office computer after payments had already been authorized.

The equity plan included forged approval notes attributed to me.

Ethan looked at the audit chair.

“This is a marital dispute being weaponized against the company.”

I placed my phone on the table and played the recording of him discussing how easily I would sign away control.

Silence followed.

Then I played Mara’s voice:

Once Claire’s shares are diluted, she can’t remove either of us.

Ethan stopped looking at me.

That was the moment our marriage ended.

Not when I discovered the hotel photographs.

Not when Mara slapped me.

It ended when my husband realized the evidence was complete and still searched the room for someone else to save him.
