Chapter 4 - Storage Unit 108
The storage facility manager remembered Camden.
He rented Unit 108 under his full legal name and paid three years in advance using a cashier’s check.
The key Finnley carried opened the outer lock.
Inside sat metal filing cabinets, sealed banker’s boxes, an old computer, and a hospital wheelchair covered by a tarp.
Walter remained at the entrance while Finnley opened the first cabinet.
The top folder carried his name.
It contained copies of the vendor accounts used to convict him.
Each fraudulent payment had been created from an internal computer assigned to Carter.
Security logs showed Finnley’s credentials had been accessed while Finnley was working at a trade show in another state.
Someone copied his authentication token.
The next box contained bank transfers from the stolen company funds into shell accounts.
Those accounts paid Carter’s gambling debts.
A red sports car.
And a private medical clinic in northern California.
Finnley opened the final envelope.
Inside was Camden’s original will.
The house, controlling interest in the company, and most remaining assets went to Finnley.
Reagan received a life-insurance policy and a fixed cash settlement.
Carter received a smaller education trust.
A later will filed after Finnley’s conviction left everything to Reagan.
The signature looked almost right.
Camden’s hidden letter said it was forged.
But the most disturbing evidence was stored on the computer.
A video file showed Camden sitting in the same unit twelve months after Reagan claimed he had died.
