Chapter 6 - Daniel’s Decision
Daniel closed the article.
“Did you know the wedding was being paid for with Hannah’s medical fund?”
Emily’s eyes filled with tears.
“Mom and Dad said it was family money.”
“It was raised in her name.”
“She never asked about it.”
Hannah stared at her.
“I believed our parents.”
Emily’s voice sharpened.
“Why does everything have to become about what happened to you?”
The sentence echoed through the church.
Daniel’s expression changed.
Hannah did not answer.
Margaret did.
“Because you are standing here only because it happened to her.”
Emily looked toward Daniel.
“You’re not going to let them destroy our wedding over something from twelve years ago.”
Daniel stepped away from the altar.
“This is not about an old accident.”
He glanced at Hannah.
“It is about what you did five minutes ago.”
Emily reached for him.
He moved his hand back.
The ceremony did not continue that morning.
Daniel did not make a dramatic announcement or publicly insult Emily. He asked the guests to leave and informed the church staff that the reception was postponed.
Emily accused Hannah of taking everything from her.
Hannah looked at the white flowers and polished pews.
“I did not ask anyone to stand up.”

“No,” Margaret said. “You spent years sitting quietly so everyone else could remain comfortable.”
For the first time, Hannah allowed someone else to defend her without apologizing for the disruption.
