Chapter 5 - Both Guests

“You can’t throw me out,” Daniel said. “I’m your husband.”
Olivia looked at him with eyes that no longer trembled.
“You should have remembered that before you let her call me the maid.”
The guards stopped several feet away, professional and calm, waiting for Olivia’s direction. Mrs. Wells took Vanessa’s handbag from the small entry table and held it out without a word.
Vanessa did not take it immediately.
Her eyes stayed on Daniel.
“You told me you owned this place.”
Daniel’s jaw tightened. “I said we owned it.”
“No,” Olivia said. “You let her believe you owned it.”
Vanessa swallowed. “He said the house was tied up because of your family money. He said once he finished the legal process, you couldn’t keep hiding assets.”
Mrs. Wells’s face hardened almost imperceptibly.
Olivia felt something colder than heartbreak move through her.
Legal process.
So there it was.
Not just an affair. Not just humiliation. A plan.
Daniel stepped toward her. “Olivia, don’t listen to her. She’s angry.”
One guard shifted into his path.
“Sir, please remain where you are.”
The sentence landed like a formal announcement of Daniel’s new status.
Not husband. Not owner. Guest.
And an unwelcome one.
Olivia opened her phone again and scrolled to a folder she had prepared three weeks earlier. She turned the blurred screen toward Daniel just enough for him to recognize the document thumbnails.
Property records. Attorney emails. Bank alerts. Copies of messages. Screenshots of his conversations with lenders.
His face drained.
“You went through my things?”
“You used my house to sell a lie.”
Vanessa took her handbag from Mrs. Wells with shaking fingers. “Daniel, what is she talking about?”
He did not answer.
That was his pattern. Silence when truth required courage.
Olivia looked at the guards. “Escort Ms. Monroe to her car. Mr. Carter can collect personal essentials under supervision. Nothing from the study, office, or safe room leaves tonight.”
Daniel’s head snapped up.
“You can’t restrict me from my own belongings.”
“I’m not,” Olivia said. “I’m restricting you from mine.”
Vanessa stared at Olivia now, not with contempt but with humiliation.
For a moment, Olivia saw the other woman clearly. Vanessa was not innocent, but she had also believed a fantasy Daniel created. A fantasy in which Olivia was invisible, powerless, and soon to be removed.

Daniel had lied to both women.
He had simply expected only one of them to suffer for it.
