Chapter 15 - The Queen's Table

It was a crisp, clear Friday evening in October 2026.

The main dining floor of Aura was completely packed, the kitchen humming with synchronized energy as twenty line cooks executed sixty orders an hour with flawless precision.

At Table 1—the grand, central booth that Theresa had swept the "Reserved" sign off of fourteen months prior—sat my mother, my elder sister Clara, and two of my oldest friends from culinary school.

A towering seafood platter surrounded by crushed ice, fresh oysters, Maine lobster tails, and King crab legs sat in the center of their table, alongside two bottles of aged French Champagne.

David stepped up to their booth, carrying four crystal glasses on a polished silver tray.

My mother looked up at David with a warm, gentle smile. "David, please tell Elena to come out and sit with us. She's been in that kitchen since seven this morning."

David smiled warmly, looking toward the pass where I was standing in my chef’s coat, watching the floor with quiet pride.

"Chef Elena will be right out, Mrs. Vance," David said softly, setting the crystal glasses on the white linen tablecloth. "She wanted me to tell you that tonight, everything on this table is her honor."

I wiped my hands on a clean apron, stepped out from behind the line, and walked toward Table 1.

As I passed through the warm, glowing dining room filled with happy guests, popping champagne corks, and the vibrant music of a thriving restaurant, I took a deep, peaceful breath of the rich, warm air.

I pulled out a chair, sat down at the head of the table beside my family, and raised my crystal glass high under the warm light of the chandeliers.

"To real queen's tables," I toasted softly, my voice filled with steady, unbreakable strength. "Built with our own hands, paid for with our own sweat, and shared only with those who know what it costs to stand."

My mother clinked her glass against mine, and the clear, beautiful chime echoed across the room—pure, honest, and entirely my own.
