Chapter 7 - THE EIGHTE-MONTH LIE

The next morning, I went to a private medical clinic to document the swelling in my cheek and the cut inside my mouth. I also gave my attorney permission to preserve the security footage from the party.
The video captured the entire sequence.
Evelyn’s remarks about my lost child.
My request that she stop.
Rodrigo standing.
The slap.
His order that I leave everything behind.
The relatives refusing to intervene.
It also captured what happened after I walked out.
Rodrigo told the family I had become unstable and attacked his mother verbally. Evelyn instructed the house staff to pack my jewelry because “property bought during marriage belongs to the household.”
Then Rodrigo called the attorney who prepared the incapacity petition.
“She finally broke in front of witnesses,” he said.
That sentence destroyed his claim that the psychiatric documents were merely preventive.
The humiliation had been planned as evidence.
Evelyn’s birthday gathering was not the original scheme, but once she provoked me, Rodrigo recognized an opportunity. He expected grief, anger, and public shame to produce the outburst his lawyer needed.
Instead, I remained calm.
So he used his hand.
Then he tried to describe the violence he committed as proof that I was dangerous.
David obtained copies of text messages between Rodrigo and Evelyn.
Two days before the party, Evelyn wrote:
She won’t surrender control while she thinks clearly. Make the family see how unstable she has become.
Rodrigo replied:
If she loses it at dinner, we’ll have witnesses.
Evelyn answered:
Use the baby if you have to.
Reading that line hurt more than the slap.

The remark at dinner had not been careless cruelty.
It had been bait.
