Chapter 7 - DANIEL’S MESSAGE
Daniel tried to deny knowledge of the attack.
He said his text—“You deserved it”—referred only to a family argument.
Lauren’s recording contradicted him.
Before Margaret threw the planter, Lauren had called Daniel on speaker. He told his mother to “make Emily understand what happens when she embarrasses this family.”
After the first impact, Lauren described what Margaret had done.
Daniel replied:
“Good. Keep filming.”
Then came the message after I reached the floor:
Whatever Mom did, you deserved worse.
The timestamp mattered.
So did the lender meeting Daniel claimed required him to be in New York.
He was not meeting the lender.
He was meeting a corporate attorney to discuss how quickly the temporary-control document could be used after I signed it.
The attorney withdrew after learning the signature had not been obtained and that the original refinancing authorization was disputed.
The audit uncovered more than inflated vendor invoices.
Daniel had diverted approximately $1.6 million over four years through renovation contracts, consulting fees and padded maintenance expenses.
Some money paid genuine building costs.
The rest funded:
Margaret’s luxury expenses.
Lauren’s salary and travel.
Daniel’s private investment account.
A condominium purchased under another LLC.
Legal work connected to transferring trust control.
The condominium was not for business.
Daniel had been using it with a woman he met through one of the contractor companies.
Margaret knew.
Lauren knew.
The family had spent months describing me as unstable while protecting Daniel’s affair and the financial plan designed to remove me.
