Chapter 8 - The Stripping of Assets

"Silence," I said.
A single word, delivered with absolute, icy authority. Both of them stopped speaking instantly.
I walked over to Chloe. She backed up until her spine hit the mahogany wall, breathing rapidly, her smug demeanor completely obliterated.
I reached out and gently took her right wrist.
"This watch," I said, running my thumb over the polished white casing, "was crafted by a master horologist in Geneva. Only ten exist worldwide. I spent six months on a waiting list to secure it for Julian’s mother for her seventieth birthday."
"I... I didn't know..." Chloe sobbed, tears finally spilling over her heavy makeup.
"Take it off," I commanded softly.
Chloe’s fingers trembled violently as she unbuckled the strap and handed the watch to me. I took a soft silk cloth from my pocket, wiped it clean, and slipped it safely into my jacket.
"Now," I said, turning back to Julian, who was still kneeling on the floor, weeping pathetically. "Let us discuss your departure."
"Evelyn, please... we’ve been married for ten years," Julian begged, tears streaming down his face. "Give me another chance! I’ll fire her right now! I’ll never see her again! Please, don't ruin my life!"
"You ruined your own life the moment you believed my silence was weakness," I said, looking down at him with utter disgust. "Arthur Pendelton is waiting in the grand boardroom on the top floor. The legal team has already filed for an emergency freeze on all your personal bank accounts tied to our marital estate."

I turned to the two security officers waiting by the door.
"Escort Mr. Vance and Miss Thorne to the executive lobby," I ordered. "Do not allow them to collect any personal items. Everything in this building belongs to the corporation."
