Chapter 15 - The Sandwich in the Park

Three years later.

It was a bright, crisp afternoon in September 2031. Boston Common was ablaze with autumn colors, orange and gold leaves falling softly onto the green grass under a clear blue sky.

Three-year-old Clara was running happily across the grass, chasing a flock of pigeons while Marcus—now head of private family security—walked a few paces behind her with a warm, indulgent smile on his face.

Jack and I sat together on a green wooden park bench near the pond, watching our daughter play.

I pulled two paper bags from my tote bag, opening one to reveal a freshly made turkey sandwich on whole wheat bread.

Jack looked over at the sandwich, an amused, nostalgic smirk playing across his handsome face.

"Is that for me?" he asked, his dark eyes shining with love.

"That depends," I said, tearing the sandwich in half and holding one piece toward him. "Are you going to answer my questions today?"

Jack took the piece of sandwich, looking down at it, then up at me—the woman who had transformed his entire existence from a shadow-filled cage into a life of boundless light.

"I will answer any question you ever ask me, my love," Jack said softly, leaning over to press a warm, tender kiss against my lips.

I smiled, taking a bite of my sandwich as the warm autumn breeze blew soft leaves across the grass, surrounded by the laughter of our daughter and the quiet, unbreakable peace of the life we had built together.
