Chapter 5 - What Chloe Did Not Know

Chloe contacted me two days later through her own lawyer.

She wanted immunity from the civil claims in exchange for cooperation.

I refused immunity but agreed to hear what she had.

Ryan had told her our marriage existed only for appearances. He claimed I refused to divorce him because my company’s board preferred a stable public image.

He also told her I had willingly shared Morgan Ridge information so Northstar could win contracts and increase our household income.

Chloe believed she and Ryan would launch their own logistics firm after the Denver agreement closed.

He had promised her ownership.

The proposed startup funds were supposed to come from an investment account in my name.

That account required my direct approval.

Ryan had prepared a forged authorization using a digital signature copied from our tax files.

Chloe produced messages proving he planned to transfer nearly two million dollars once the contract was signed.

The money would have financed their company, apartment, and new life.

He had promised her my money before telling me our marriage was over.

Then Chloe revealed the part that destroyed his final defense.

Ryan had been deliberately creating failures inside Morgan Ridge. He delayed shipments, redirected materials, and leaked pricing so my performance would appear unstable.

If the board removed me as operations director, he believed I would become financially and emotionally dependent on him.

He was not merely preparing to leave.

He was weakening me first.
