Chapter 6 - What Vivian Ordered
The officers separated us.
Daniel insisted I had fallen.
Then Lena played the recording.
His own voice filled the dining room:
Cover it. She’s already here.
Vivian’s followed:
At least make yourself presentable.
Then Daniel again:
Don’t embarrass me.
He stopped speaking after that.
Miriam opened the document case.
The company board had authorized an emergency review of Hawthorne Domestic Holdings.
Accounts connected to the shell corporation were being frozen while investigators examined false invoices and diverted company funds.
Vivian’s confidence collapsed.
“That company is legitimate.”
“What services did it provide?” Miriam asked.
Vivian could not name one.
Daniel tried to explain that Hawthorne managed family investments.
The invoices described cybersecurity consulting, market research, and employee training.
None had occurred.
Then Lena asked whether Vivian had encouraged Daniel to force me to sell my apartment.
Vivian denied it.
I opened the hidden folder.
Her recorded voice played:
If she keeps refusing, teach her obedience.
Daniel stared at his mother.
He had not known I possessed that recording.
Vivian turned toward me.
“You recorded private family conversations?”
“You used private family conversations to plan financial coercion.”
Her face lost color.
The shell company was not their only mistake.
The separate-property agreement Daniel signed before our wedding explicitly protected my apartment and prohibited either spouse from using coercion to obtain a transfer.
He had never read it carefully.
