Chapter 7 - The Man Who Thought Babies Were Property
Nathan filed first.
Emergency petition.
Paternal rights.
Concern for unborn children.
Claims that I was unstable, irrational, financially vulnerable, and under the influence of a dangerous outsider.
Lucian’s attorneys answered with Nathan’s message.
His financial abandonment.
The divorce timing.
The mistress.
The suspected medical privacy breach.
And security footage of him arriving at the hospital with attorneys before he had even asked whether I was safe.
The judge did not like that.
Nathan liked it even less.
He tried calling me.
Blocked.
He tried sending Chloe to issue a public statement about his “concern as a father.”
Lucian’s team released nothing.
They only filed.
Cleanly.
Quietly.
Effectively.
That scared Nathan more than headlines would have.
Two months later, I moved into a secure apartment arranged through a support foundation Lucian funded but did not personally control. That mattered to me. He did not buy me. He did not rescue me and then demand gratitude as rent.
He gave me room.
Safety.
Options.
The triplets were born early, but healthy enough to fight.
Two boys and a girl.
I named them Noah, Miles, and Lily.
Nathan saw them first through a court-approved supervised process months later. He did not get to pose with them as heirs. He did not get to remove them from me. He did not get to turn fatherhood into ownership.
As for Lucian, people asked if he became part of my life.
The truth is simpler.
He became someone who showed up when there was nothing in it for him except the chance to make sure a powerful man did not win by being powerful.
