Chapter 3 - The Pattern
The first serious incident involved Private Ellis.
Ellis developed severe dizziness during a midday march and requested water. Cross accused him of weakness and ordered the formation to continue.
Maya saw the change in Ellis’s steps.
His left foot began dragging.
His responses became confused.
She broke formation, caught him before he collapsed, and called for medical support.
Cross punished her for disobeying movement orders.
The medic later confirmed Ellis was suffering from heat illness.
Cross’s written report claimed Maya had panicked and disrupted training unnecessarily.
Maya requested that the medic’s findings be attached.
The request disappeared.
Two weeks later, Cross made another recruit continue carrying a damaged pack after its metal frame began cutting into his back.
Maya reported the equipment issue.
Cross called her difficult.
The recruit later needed treatment for a deep abrasion.
Again, the report described the injury as minor.
Maya began writing everything down.
Dates.
Times.
Witnesses.
Exact commands.
She stored copies outside the barracks and encouraged injured trainees to keep their own records.
