Chapter 9 - THE COMPANY BEHIND THE FAMILY STORY
Hale Meridian Consulting entered restructuring proceedings six months later.
The investigation found that Trevor had exaggerated company revenue during the divorce while understating liabilities. Several transfers to Hale Residential Services were challenged. Vanessa settled claims related to unsupported invoices and dissolved the company.
The typed release never became a completed forgery because no signature had been placed on it.
But the draft, the sample provided by Diane, the lender representations and the pressure campaign became important evidence in the property dispute and related financial reviews.
Trevor continued insisting he had only been trying to save his business.
That was partly true.
The lie was believing that purpose entitled him to my property.
He had spent years accepting praise for a house purchased mainly with money my father left me. Eventually, he began treating the story as fact.
Then he built business plans on top of it.
Diane repeated the story.
Vanessa monetized it.
Trevor attempted to borrow against it.
The house never changed.
The documents never changed.
Only the confidence surrounding the lie grew.
That was why the breakfast-room confrontation mattered.
Diane did not walk in carrying proof.
She walked in carrying certainty.
She believed my continued presence required an explanation because Trevor had already told everyone the ending.
