Chapter 10 - A NEW SUNRISE OVER THE BAY

An hour later, the Miami night had fully set in. Outside, the dark waters of Biscayne Bay reflected the twinkling golden lights of the city skyline.

Inside the estate’s upper nursery, the warm amber light of a small bedside lamp illuminated a peaceful room filled with wooden toys, storybooks, and soft blankets.

Noah lay tucked beneath a blue duvet, his small hands holding a worn stuffed bear, his eyes heavy with sleep as Grace sat on the edge of the mattress, softly singing a familiar lullaby. Within minutes, the little boy’s chest rose and fell in a steady, deep rhythm of peaceful sleep.

Grace gently kissed his forehead, pulled the blanket up to his chin, and stood up quietly.

She stepped out into the dimly lit hallway, carefully pulling the nursery door shut until it clicked softly.

Standing five feet away, leaning against the mahogany wall paneling in the shadows of the corridor, was Leo. He had removed his suit jacket and tie, wearing only his black silk shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his forearms, a glass of dark scotch in his left hand.

He looked at Grace as she walked toward him.

"He's asleep," Grace said softly, offering a quiet smile.

Leo took a slow sip of his drink, then set the glass down on a nearby console table. He stepped into her path, his tall, broad frame blocking the hallway, but there was no threat in his posture—only a deep, protective presence.

"Grace," Leo spoke, his baritone voice filling the quiet corridor.

"Yes, Mr. Vance?"

"No more 'Mr. Vance'," Leo corrected gently, stepping an inch closer. "And no more sleeping in the staff quarters on the third floor."

Grace blinked, her hazel eyes widening in confusion. "What do you mean?"

Leo reached out, his thumb gently brushing the edge of her jaw, just below where the redness on her cheek was already beginning to fade.

"You aren't just the nanny in this house anymore, Grace," Leo declared softly, his dark eyes burning with absolute, unshakeable truth. "You are the heartbeat of this home. You stay here, on this floor, beside Noah... and beside me."

Grace felt a warm, golden wave of emotion wash through her chest. The three years of silent service, the long nights of caring for a motherless boy, and the hidden love she had carried in her heart were no longer invisible.

She looked up into Leo’s strong, dark face, seeing the promise of protection, respect, and a real family written in his eyes.

"Okay, Leo," Grace whispered, a radiant, beautiful smile breaking across her face. "I'll stay."

Leo offered a quiet, rare smile of his own—the smile of a man who had finally brought peace to his home—and took her hand into his, leading her down the sun-drenched halls of his estate toward a bright, unbroken future.
