Chapter 6 - The Unseen Presence

The glass front door pushed open, moving only partway into the diner.
The cool evening air rushed through the narrow opening, mixing with the warm, grease-laden air of the interior. The brass bell above chimed a second time, a lingering tone that died quickly in the heavy atmosphere.
Standing in the gap of the doorway was the Mysterious Man.
From the angle of the diner, the man's full face remained completely hidden in deep shadow. The camera focused strictly on his posture—a dark, tailored jacket over a pale shirt, clean leather shoes that looked entirely out of place on the dusty gravel of Route 81, and hands tucked casually into his coat pockets. He possessed a calm, menacing confidence, the demeanor of someone who believed he owned everything and everyone in his path.
Mara leaned her head slightly out from behind the Lead Biker’s hip, catchling a brief glint of the shoes and the dark coat.
Her voice was a fragile, terrified whisper that barely reached the Lead Biker’s ears.
"He found me."
The Lead Biker’s face turned to pure stone. His chest rose as he drew in a deep breath, his broad shoulders expanding to ensure not a single inch of Mara was visible from the door. His dark eyes locked onto the figure in the doorway, filled with an absolute, deadly promise.
Then, something strange happened.
Rhett Mercer, standing at the center of the protective leather wall, raised his head to look directly at the Mysterious Man standing in the doorway. Rhett’s sharp blue eyes narrowed. He looked closely at the man’s stance, the cut of his coat, or perhaps a ring on his hand—something subtle and distinct.
Rhett’s expression suddenly changed. The pure, defensive rage on his face flickered, replaced by a look of sudden, profound shock.

Rhett slowly turned his head sideways, looking back at the Lead Biker over his shoulder. His eyes were wide, filled with an unreadable mixture of recognition and dread, as if he had just realized that the man standing in the doorway was not a random stranger—but someone connected directly to the club, or to the Lead Biker himself.
The Mysterious Man took one slow, deliberate step inside the diner.
