Chapter 3 - THE FRAMED TRUTH

Sophia squeezed her damaged stuffed rabbit tighter against her cream-pink dress, her thumb rubbing mechanically over the toy's remaining button eye. Her small body shook as another sob threatened to tear through her throat, but the warm pressure of Pino’s head against her knee gave her the courage to speak.
"They... they put your gold watch in Mommy’s locker," Sophia hiccuped, her big brown eyes looking up into Lorenzo’s tattooed face with complete, unfiltered honesty.
Lorenzo’s jaw set like a block of concrete. His eyes narrowed into razor-sharp slits of ice.
Sophia’s mother was a quiet, hard-working twenty-eight-year-old widow who worked as the primary housekeeper for the clubhouse residential quarters, cleaning the rooms, laundry facilities, and private suites of the upper-tier members. She was a gentle, soft-spoken woman who kept her head down, worked long hours to support her daughter, and never asked for handouts.
Lorenzo’s jeweled gold watch—a priceless custom timepiece presented to him by his late father—had vanished from his private suite three hours ago during the morning board meeting. Its disappearance had triggered an immediate, high-tension lockdown inside the facility, with accusation after accusation flying between his senior officers.
"They said you’d throw us out," Sophia continued, fresh tears spilling over her eyelashes and dripping onto her dress. "They said... they said the big men were going to call the police and lock Mommy in a cage forever."
Lorenzo looked from the sobbing child down to Pino. The massive Doberman lifted his head from her knee, looking up at his master with sharp, intelligent eyes, letting out a soft grunt that sounded almost like an endorsement of her words.
The entire conspiracy clicked into place inside Lorenzo’s tactical mind with terrifying clarity.

Someone inside his inner circle—one of the senior officers sitting at the mahogany conference table five minutes ago—had stolen the watch. But they hadn't stolen it for money. They had planted it in a defenseless housekeeper's locker to cover their own tracks, deflect suspicion away from the board, and ruin an innocent woman's life to save their own skin.
Lorenzo slowly rose to his feet, his massive, tattooed shoulders expanding as a cold, lethal fury settled over his body.
