Chapter 3 - The Video That Posted Itself
Kyle returned to the gas station three hours later.
I learned what happened through the footage retrieved afterward.
He jumped from the truck expecting to find me crying near the pumps. Brad searched inside the store. Chase laughed at first, assuming I had hidden behind the building to punish them.
Then they found my sandal.
Kyle’s confidence disappeared.
The clerk told them I had left with a woman in an old minivan. He refused to share the direction because Kyle could not prove he was my husband without my wallet, which remained inside the truck.
Kyle called my dead phone twenty-seven times.
By midnight, he had reported me missing while carefully omitting why I had been stranded.
But the brothers had scheduled the prank video to publish automatically at six the next morning.
They were asleep when it went live.
The original edit showed Kyle taking my purse and locking the doors. It showed Chase suggesting they leave me until sunset because “real panic gets better engagement.” It also captured Brad asking whether they had gone too far.
Kyle answered:
“She always forgives me.”
Within two hours, viewers had identified the gas station and compared the upload with the missing-person notice.
The comments turned against them.
Their largest sponsor suspended its contract. The video platform froze advertising revenue while reviewing the footage. Kyle’s employer saw him laughing as he abandoned his wife during a trip he had claimed was for work.
He was fired before lunch.
Then Rachel’s notice reached the bank.
Every business card stopped working.
