Chapter 6 - WHAT HAPPENED BEHIND THE SCIENCE BUILDING
Lily could not speak for days after surgery.
So investigators built the story through writing, footage, phone metadata, and what little she could tolerate remembering.
At 11:22 p.m., Lily left the lab carrying her backpack and blue hoodie.
At 11:27, Ethan met her near the rear stairwell.
He asked for the flash drive.
Lily refused.
He told her Dr. Kline wanted to “resolve this privately.”
She tried to leave.
Ray Voss entered through the security door.
That was when Lily became scared.
Not because Ray threatened her.
Because he locked the hallway behind them.
Dr. Kline arrived minutes later.
Three adults.
One nineteen-year-old.
They told Lily she had misunderstood confidential research adjustments and could ruin careers, scholarships, and a major remediation project.
Lily asked to leave.
Ray said:
“Just hear them out.”
Kline demanded the drive.
She refused.
Ethan tried to take her backpack.
Lily pulled away.
Then everything escalated.
Not planned.
Not initially.
Ethan grabbed her wrist.
She slapped his hand.
He shoved her.
She stumbled into a concrete wall.
Then tried to run.
Dr. Kline blocked the service door.
Lily screamed.
Ray panicked.
He told everyone to calm down.
Then Ethan struck her.
Once.
Hard.
She fell.
According to Lily, Kline yelled at Ethan.
Ray knelt to help her.
Lily tried to stand.
Ethan was crying now, terrified about what he had done.
Then Kline made the decision that transformed an assault into a conspiracy.
He said:
“No ambulance from here.”
Ray stared at him.
Lily remembered that clearly.
Kline wanted the scene moved.
If EMS arrived outside the science building, questions would begin immediately.
So Ray disabled the cameras.
He helped move Lily toward the rear loading area.
Not to hurt her further.
To conceal where it happened.
That was why Lily wrote:
RAY DIDN’T HIT ME
HE HELPED THEM
Ray found her breathing worsening.
Then lost his nerve.
He called EMS anyway.
But lied about finding her outside.
That was his line.
Not violence.
