Chapter 6 - The Family Name
Police arrived while doctors continued monitoring me.
Victoria sat in a chair outside the room, still insisting the incident had been misunderstood.
When officers asked whether she had touched me, she said she tried to prevent me from falling.
The video showed otherwise.
When they asked why she took my phone, she said I was behaving irrationally.
The recording captured me speaking calmly before she lunged.
When they asked about her statement regarding the heir, she called it a figure of speech.
Julian stood beside my bed listening to every answer.
His face looked older.
He had defended his mother for years by believing her cruelty came from fear of losing family.
Now he understood she viewed family as something she owned.
The police escorted Victoria from the hospital in handcuffs.
She looked at Julian.
“You’re really choosing her over your mother?”
He did not raise his voice.
“I’m choosing my wife and child over the person who attacked them.”
Victoria’s expression fractured.
“You would have nothing without me.”
Julian looked toward the officers.
“That’s what you never understood. Love isn’t ownership.”
Her arrest triggered consequences beyond the criminal case.
The company board learned she had abandoned an emergency acquisition meeting to interfere with Julian’s hospitalized wife.
Then auditors examined the personal companies she used to fund the anonymous messages and reputation campaign against me.
They discovered company consultants had been paid to investigate employees, spouses, and directors she considered disloyal.
Several board members had also been targeted.
Within a week, the trustees suspended Victoria’s voting authority pending an independent review.
