Chapter 15 - The Measure of Home

That evening, back at the estate, night fell softly over Long Island.

The grand house was illuminated by warm amber lights flowing from every window. Laughter echoed from the kitchen where Elena Whitmore and Isabella were preparing dinner together, while little Mia was fast asleep in her second-floor bedroom, wrapped in a soft handmade quilt.

I stood by the floor-to-ceiling glass windows in the library, watching the distant headlights of security cars patrolling the outer gates.

Lorenzo stepped up behind me, wrapping his long arms around my waist, pulling my back against his broad chest. He rested his chin softly on my shoulder, his warm breath tickling my neck.

"What are you thinking about, Clara?" he murmured softly.

"I was thinking about the first morning I walked into this house," I said, turning slightly in his arms to look up into his dark, handsome face. "I was so terrified of the forbidden rule. I thought if Mia stepped one foot onto the second floor, we would be thrown out into the street."

Lorenzo smiled—a soft, breathtaking smile that completely erased the lingering ghosts of his past.

"Rules are made by desperate men trying to control a dark world, Clara," Lorenzo whispered, leaning down to press a soft, lingering kiss against my lips. "Mia didn't break a rule when she walked into my room. She brought light into a tomb."

He slid his fingers down my hand, entwining them with mine, holding me securely against his heart.

"You gave me back my family," Lorenzo murmured against my lips. "And I am never letting either of you go."

Outside, the storm had completely passed, leaving behind a clear, starlit sky over the quiet estate.

The Moretti home was no longer a place of silence, fear, or hidden tragedy.

It was filled with warmth, safety, children's footsteps, and a love so fierce and unshakeable that no shadow could ever touch it again.

And as the little girl slept upstairs beneath the silver anchor, the song that had saved a life echoed quietly through the halls—a eternal promise of sunshine after the storm.
