Chapter 7 - Oakhaven Does Not Transfer

Gavin tried to regain control through softness.
“Audrey, we should talk privately.”
“That ended in room 314.”
Brooke, still holding Leo safely, looked around the room as if searching for someone to defend her. But family loyalty becomes fragile when evidence starts naming accounts, dates, and signatures.
Diane recovered enough to hiss, “You are humiliating your own blood.”
Audrey looked at her mother.
“No. I am identifying who sold it.”
That sentence hit harder than if she had shouted.
Lenora entered from the side hall then, dressed in a charcoal suit, carrying the legal folder Audrey had asked her to bring only after the first envelope was opened. Two private security staff waited near the entrance, discreet but visible.
Gavin’s face changed completely.
Audrey continued, “Oakhaven Court is not available for Brooke, Gavin, or anyone else to move into. The mortgage is paid by me. The deed is controlled by my trust. Effective this morning, access for Gavin, Brooke, Diane, and Martin has been revoked.”
Martin’s voice cracked. “You can’t cut your parents out of a family home.”
Audrey turned toward him. “You tried to trade my company to save yourself.”
“It was temporary.”
“So was my trust in you.”
A few relatives looked away.
Others did not. Those were the ones Audrey remembered later.
Lenora began serving documents quietly. Separation filings for Gavin. Preservation demands regarding the IVF fund transfers. Notice to the lender disputing Martin’s authority. A formal demand for return of the diamond. Financial misconduct documentation.
Brooke’s eyes filled now, but Audrey no longer knew whether the tears were fear, shame, or the sudden loss of a house she had imagined decorating.
“You’re punishing a baby,” Brooke said.
Audrey looked at Leo, sleeping peacefully against his mother’s shoulder.
“No,” she said. “I’m protecting a child from growing up in a lie.”
Gavin whispered, “He’s my son.”
Audrey held his gaze.

“Then be honest enough to give him something better than theft.”
For the first time since Audrey walked into room 314, Gavin had no answer.
