Chapter 8 - THE ACCOUNTING
Ms. Avery petitioned to remove Isolda as trustee and freeze the remaining education funds. The school invalidated the forged residency paperwork and required Jet to enroll in his actual district until his parents established lawful eligibility.
I did not ask for him to lose access to education.
I asked that my identity stop being the price of it.
Valora insisted everyone was attacking her child. Avery answered with the documents: the forged signature, the false residence statement, the staged bus pickups, and the livestream created to portray me as unstable. When confronted with the camera footage, Valora claimed she had only wanted a funny reaction.
The audio answered her.
Just enough to make her lose it.
Isolda argued that my grandparents would have wanted the money used for the youngest generation. The original trust said otherwise. It named me, described my educational goals, and required written consent for any beneficiary change.
The court restored what remained of the fund to an independently managed account. Recovery of the spent money took longer. Isolda and Valora agreed to a civil repayment plan rather than continue disputing documents whose signatures could not survive review.
Harlon provided the folder and a sworn statement.
It did not restore our relationship.
It did finally interrupt his silence.
My extended family reacted exactly as people do when a useful arrangement becomes visible. Some said I was brave. Others said I had gone too far. Uncle Ben asked whether a fractured nose was worth breaking the family apart.
