Chapter 8 - LINDA’S APOLOGY

Linda sent her first apology six weeks later.

It said:

I am sorry everyone misunderstood my actions during an extremely emotional day.

Daniel returned it.

The second said:

I am sorry Claire felt threatened when I attempted to determine how serious her condition was.

Megan returned that one.

The third arrived through Linda’s attorney after the hospital issued a formal no-trespass notice and the trustee restricted her financial authority.

It was longer.

Linda admitted she accused me of lying despite knowing Daniel had spoken with the surgeon. She admitted she brought financial documents to the hospital because she feared the loan would collapse. She admitted moving toward the surgical area to frighten me into sitting up and “proving” I was well enough for Daniel to leave.

The apology still contained explanations.

But it finally named the actions.

I did not resume contact.

Accountability does not require immediate access to the person harmed.

Megan chose limited phone conversations with her mother. Daniel chose none for several months. Neither demanded that the other follow the same timeline.

Linda continued telling certain relatives that I had divided the family.

Yet the family had not broken because I became ill.

It broke because Linda believed everyone else’s body, signature, wedding, marriage, and inheritance existed to stabilize her life.

My hospital room merely made that belief impossible to hide.
