Chapter 7 - THE WOMAN WITH THE KEY
Lorraine insisted Marcus controlled her.
She said she carried the key because he forced her. She claimed she believed I was being protected during a psychiatric crisis.
Her own voice contradicted her.
She had chosen the food.
She had canceled appointments.
She had contacted the guardianship attorney and described herself as the baby’s safest maternal figure.
She also made one mistake Marcus did not know about.
Lorraine kept a handwritten calendar.
Beside several dates, she recorded my water, food, contractions, and level of alertness. Investigators found it inside her purse beneath the gold chain.
She called the notes medical monitoring.
A nurse reviewing them called them evidence that Lorraine understood my condition was deteriorating.
When questioned about the treatment facility, Lorraine admitted she knew I had never entered it.
“Marcus said we only needed people to believe she was there.”
She used the word we before her attorney stopped the interview.
The legal proceedings did not finish in one night. Marcus and Lorraine denied intent to kill me. Their attorneys argued that the recordings lacked visual context and that the cage had originally been built for a large dog.
The original purpose did not explain the welded door.
It did not explain the forged medical records.
It did not explain why a pregnant woman was inside while dinner guests were told she was in another city.
