Chapter 5 - THE LOADED STRIKE

Marcus pulled his right arm backward.
His movement was broad, telegraphed, and clumsy—the hallmark of an untrained brawler who relied entirely on mass, momentum, and terror to overwhelm his opponents. His right elbow rose parallel to the ground; his torso torqued violently to the right, winding his chest muscles tight like a spring. His trailing boot dug into the turf, tearing a patch of green grass as he committed every ounce of his two-hundred-and-twenty-pound frame into a haymaker right punch.
The intent was unmistakable. He was not throwing a training jab; he was throwing a devastating, concussive strike aimed directly at the center of Jessica’s jaw, fully prepared to break her bones and knock her unconscious onto the concrete patio to prove his dominance.
From the porch steps, Jessica’s mother let out a blood-curdling scream.
"Marcus!"
The relatives recoiled in absolute horror. Two men stepped forward, yelling in panic, but they were thirty feet away—completely helpless to stop the violent collision that was about to unfold.
Jessica did not flinch.
She did not close her eyes. She did not raise her shoulders in a desperate turtle defense. She did not take a single step backward.

Her mind processed the world in high-definition, micro-second increments. She saw the angle of his knuckles, the rotation of his wrist, the forward displacement of his center of mass, and the total exposure of his left flank and centerline.
Her eyes locked onto the incoming fist with terrifying, absolute serenity.
