Chapter 7 - The Confrontation in the Storm

The rain continued to pour relentlessly, cascading off the gutters of the Holloway estate in heavy sheets. Nathan stood rooted to the spot, his mind reeling from the realization that had just shattered his understanding of his home. His heart hammered against his ribs as he stood as a physical barrier between Mrs. Grayson and his terrified daughter shivering in the mud behind him.

Mrs. Grayson took a single, deliberate step forward, her polished black leather shoes stopping just at the edge of the dry porch floor, right where the rain sprayed off the roof line. She rested her hands neatly in front of her dark skirt, her dark blonde hair untouched by the wind. Her cold eyes locked onto Nathan’s drenched face.

"Mr. Holloway," Mrs. Grayson said smoothly, her voice cutting through the ambient roar of the storm with terrifying composure. "You're back earlier than expected. I wasn't informed your flight from London had landed."

Nathan did not move. His voice, when he spoke, was low, dangerous, and dripping with venom. "Get out of my house."

Mrs. Grayson did not flinch. She did not display a single flicker of surprise or fear. Instead, a slight, patronizing smile touched the corners of her lips—a calm, dismissive expression that suggested she was entirely in control of the situation.

"I’m afraid it’s not that simple, Nathan," she said softly, dropping the formal title for the first time. "You see, Emma hasn't finished her chores. And we have strict rules here when you are away."

Behind Nathan, Emma let out a tiny, frightened whimper, her small hands clutching tightly to the damp fabric of her father’s trousers. Nathan felt his daughter's terror vibrating through his legs. The sight of this stranger speaking so casually about abusing his child inside his own home pushed Nathan to the absolute brink of control.

"I said," Nathan stepped forward into the downpour, his posture rigid and commanding, "get out before I throw you out myself."

Mrs. Grayson tilted her head slightly, her eyes glinting under the entryway light. "You really should be careful, Nathan. You haven't checked the basement yet, have you?"
