Chapter 6 - Dinner

At first, Rodrigo did not understand what he was seeing.

That gave Mariana almost two seconds of pleasure.

His eyes moved from the photos to the papers to the flash drive. His mouth tightened. He looked at Teresa, then Fernanda, then back at Mariana.

“What the hell is this?”

“Dinner.”

Teresa’s face went rigid. “Put that away.”

Mariana ignored her and slid one photo across the marble. The image was blurred enough that the room could not read details, but Rodrigo recognized the hotel entrance. He recognized Camila’s red coat. He recognized himself.

His face changed.

Fernanda leaned closer to the financial statements, then recoiled as if the paper had teeth.

“This is private,” she snapped.

“No,” Mariana said. “This is theft.”

Fernanda’s wine glass tipped over. Red wine spread across the table, soaking the edge of one document copy. Mariana did not react. The originals were safe.

Teresa’s hand moved to her pearls.

“You ungrateful little thing,” she whispered. “After everything this family gave you.”

Mariana looked around the dining room: her table, her chandelier, her flowers, her house.

“You mean everything you tried to take.”

Rodrigo stepped forward.

“Enough.”

He reached for the tray.

Mariana held his gaze.

“Touch it, and the prosecutor sees you live.”

He froze.

That was when Teresa understood before he did.

“She sent it,” she whispered.

Mariana’s voice stayed low.

“Every file. Every recording. Every invoice. Every time he thought darkness was enough.”

The color drained from Rodrigo’s face.
