Chapter 10 - THE GUARDIAN OF BEACON HILL

Roman watched as the hidden door swung shut once more, the heavy mahogany bookcase clicking securely back into place with a subtle, airtight seal that hid the seam completely.

He walked calmly over to his grand mahogany desk, picked up a clean microfiber cloth, and wiped down the small spot where the industrial vacuum had rested on the Persian rug. He pushed the heavy vacuum machine neatly into the corner behind the leather armchair, ensuring no trace of the children’s presence remained in the study.

Outside, the sound of heavy footsteps echoed down the second-floor gallery.

The brass door handle of the private study turned sharply, and the door swung open. Victor, his head of security, stepped into the room wearing a rain-slicked trench coat, his hand resting casually near his waist.

"Boss," Victor said smoothly, his eyes scanning the quiet room. "Sorry to disturb you at 2:00 a.m. We're running a sweep of the staff quarters. Thought we heard some noise up here."

Roman stood calmly beside his desk, pouring a glass of dark amber liquid from a crystal carafe. He didn't look up as he spoke, his voice cool, unbothered, and terrifyingly calm.

"Just finishing some late-night reading, Victor," Roman said, taking a slow sip from his glass. "The house is completely clean."

Victor hesitated, his eyes lingering on the massive floor-to-ceiling bookcase covering the west wall. Seeing nothing out of place, he slowly lowered his hand from his coat and nodded.

"Understood, boss. I'll secure the perimeter."

As Victor backed out of the room and closed the heavy oak doors, Roman turned his eyes toward the west wall. The rain outside continued to fall over Beacon Hill, but inside the private study, the quiet was absolute—a sanctuary protected not by fear, but by a newly forged, unbreakable vow to shield the innocent bloodline hidden within its walls.
