Chapter 11 - The Memphis Junction

Thirty-six hours later, the storm had cleared, giving way to a crisp, freezing blue sky over the freight junctions of Memphis, Tennessee.
The private rail container had been switched three times onto secondary tracks, operating under phantom corporate manifests generated automatically by my mother's encrypted network.
Inside the car, the air was warm and quiet.
Ethan was sitting up in bed, sipping broth from a mug, his color returning as his wounds began the long process of healing.
The twins were sleeping soundly in a double cradle beside his bed.
I sat on the edge of his mattress, wearing a clean grey fleece sweater Evelyn had provided, watching the southern landscape roll past the window.
"You saved us, Harper," Ethan said softly, reaching out to cover my hand with his.
"I saved my family," I corrected, looking into his eyes. "There's a difference."
"What happens now?" Dr. Aris asked from the galley kitchen, setting down a tray of coffee mugs. "The Vanguard Council’s legal assets have been frozen by the EMP paper trail you released to the Department of Justice during the crossing."
"The Council is finished," Evelyn stated firmly, sitting across from us with a tablet in her lap. "Harper’s voice command released the 2012 financial records to every major regulatory agency in North America and Europe simultaneously. Sixty percent of their shell companies were seized by international courts six hours ago."
"And the company?" I asked.
Evelyn smiled—a real, genuine smile that reached her eyes.
"The board of directors called an emergency session for Monday morning," Evelyn said. "Ethan remains the Chairman of the Board. But sixty percent of the voting trust has been transferred into a permanent educational and public infrastructure fund managed by three trustees."

She looked at me.
"The primary trustee is named Harper Maya Grant."
