Chapter 10 - BLOODLINE GUARDIAN

The distant sound of police sirens began echoing from the main avenue, approaching the Walmart entrance fast.
Jack’s three fellow motorcycle club members pulled their bikes up in a tight circle around the silver sedan, their heavy engines idling with a deep, mechanical thrum as they secured the Stranger and the driver.
Jack released his grip on the Stranger, letting the man slide down against the car tire where two Iron Ravens instantly pinned him to the pavement.
Jack walked over to Sarah, wrapping his massive arm around her shoulders to support her weak frame as she wept against his leather vest.
"It's over, Sarah," Jack said softly, his voice firm with an absolute, unshakeable promise. "You don't have to run anymore."
He leaned down, picked up the purple backpack from the asphalt, zip-locking it securely, and then turned back toward the store entrance.
Inside the glass doors of the Walmart, little Emma was standing between two friendly security guards, her small hands clutching her yellow T-shirt. The moment she saw Jack walking back through the doors with her mother supported under his arm, her pale face lit up with radiant, overwhelming joy.
Emma broke away from the guards, running as fast as her small pink sneakers could carry her across the polished linoleum floor.
Jack dropped to both knees, opening his broad arms wide.
Emma slammed into his chest, wrapping her tiny arms around his neck, burying her face into the soft leather of his vest, right over the pocket where her father’s photograph rested safe against his heart.
Jack wrapped his large, tattooed arms around his brother's daughter, lifting her gently off the floor, kissing the top of her dark head as her mother joined them in a tight, protective embrace.
Jack looked down at Emma, raising his right hand in front of her face, signing three simple, clear gestures:
YOU ARE SAFE NOW.
May you like
Emma looked into her uncle's eyes, a tiny, beautiful smile breaking across her face for the first time in years, and signed back:
FAMILY.
