Chapter 4 - THE FLUID TAKEDOWN

Without allowing Briggs a fraction of a second to reset his weight, Avery stepped deep inside his centerline, planting her right boot squarely between his feet.

She did not pull or push with brute force. Instead, she rotated her hips in a tight, kinetic arc, using Briggs’ own forward momentum against him while her rear leg swept smoothly across his supporting ankle.

The mechanics were flawless, executing a high-level redirection that removed every anchor point Briggs had on the mat.

THUD!

Sergeant Briggs’ massive frame was flipped horizontally through the air before crashing flat onto his back in the center of the blue mat. The impact echoed off the concrete walls like a thunderclap, rattling the water bottles resting on the judge's table.

Briggs lay flat on his back, the wind knocked completely out of his lungs, his eyes staring up at the fluorescent ceiling lights in absolute, bewildered shock.

The hundreds of soldiers packing the bleachers sat frozen, staring at the fallen instructor in total disbelief. The mockery that had filled the room moments prior was utterly erased.
