Chapter 4 - Convergence

For two days, the mission unfolded almost exactly as planned.

The team established an observation post among gray rock overlooking a valley near the Pakistan border. The SEALs rotated security. Jenna monitored enemy frequencies from behind a concealed position, recording call signs, movement orders, and coded phrases.

Most transmissions were ordinary.

Supply updates.

Guard rotations.

Local warnings.

Then the pattern shifted on the third morning.

Different call signs began appearing on the same channels. Fighters who normally operated separately started passing short confirmation codes. Radio traffic tightened instead of spreading. Routes converged toward the ridgeline occupied by the Americans.

Jenna pressed her headset closer.

“Chief,” she said over the net, “I’m hearing multiple call signs coordinating movement in the valley. Sounds like convergence.”

Carver’s reply came quickly.

“Copy. Keep listening. Tell me if they mention us.”

“They may not need to.”

A pause.

“Explain.”

“The traffic is too clean. They’re moving around a point without naming it.”

Marcus looked back from his position. “Or locals are moving supplies.”

Jenna ignored the tone.

“There are at least three groups,” she continued. “Different directions. Same timing.”

Carver studied the valley through optics.

“Hold position.”

Jenna listened for another ten minutes.

Then one transmission changed everything.

A short phrase.

A confirmation.

A word connected to detonation.

She reached for the radio.

The mountain exploded first.
