Chapter 14 - The Unbroken Circle

Six months later.
The summer sun over the Tuscan coast was warm, golden, and rich with the scent of wild rosemary, sea salt, and ripening olives.
The ancient Vance Estate in Livorno sat atop a soft green hill overlooking the turquoise waters of the Ligurian Sea. The two-hundred-year-old stone farmhouse had been meticulously restored—its terracotta roof tiles gleaming, its stone arches clean, its vast olive groves stretching for miles down toward the private deep-water pier below.
Long wooden tables were set up in the shade of the olive trees, covered in clean white linen, silver cutlery, and bowls of fresh peaches and green olives.
A private celebration was in progress.
Sitting around the long tables were forty people—the senior operations directors of Salvatore & Vance Global, local Italian harbor masters, forensic auditors, Detective Miller from New York, Dr. Mensah from Vancouver, and Vincent Rizzo, who sat at the end of the table enjoying a large plate of fresh homemade pasta.
At the head of the table sat Dominic and Elena.
Dominic was dressed in a light linen shirt, his sleeves rolled up, chatting warmly with two senior port directors from Genoa.
Elena sat beside him, holding a glass of chilled white wine, listening to the soft rustle of olive leaves in the warm sea breeze.
Her phone, resting on the tablecloth, chimed with a soft, private notification.
She picked it up. It was an automated legal update from the State of New York Department of Corrections:
Inmate #884920 (Isabella Vance/Salvatore) - Tertiary Parole Request Denied. Next Review: 2045.
Elena looked at the screen for two seconds, then turned the phone face down on the white linen tablecloth.
She didn't need to read it again. She didn't need to think about Isabella, or Anthony Moretti, or the cold concrete basement in Westchester ever again. The past had been audited, balanced, and closed forever.
Dominic leaned over, resting his hand gently over hers on the table.
“Everything alright, partner?” he asked softly.
Elena looked at him, then out over the green hills of her family’s land, reaching down to where the blue sea met the clear, endless sky.

“Everything is perfect, Dominic,” Elena said cleanly.
She raised her glass toward the sun, and around the long table, forty partners stood up, raising their glasses with her into the bright, warm light.
