Chapter 5 - Adrian’s World Tilts

Adrian Kane slowly raised his head.
The transformation was dynamic and immediately visible through the vertical 9:16 frame.
Adrian’s face, which had been unreadable granite seconds ago, turned completely pale. His gray-blue eyes, usually calculated weapons, widened significantly. He didn't just look surprised; he looked deeply, fundamentally shaken, almost paralyzed by what he had just heard.
He continued to crouch in the hallway, staring at his five-year-old son in the gray suit as if he were a complete stranger who had just delivered a fatal blow in a strategic negotiation. Noah, completely serious, only tightened his grip around the loved gray stuffed elephant, holding his father’s gaze with unflinching hazel eyes.
Then, Adrian’s eyes slowly shifted away from Noah. He turned his head and looked directly at his Secretary, Julianne.
Julianne stood frozen by her minimalist obsidian desk, her light pink business suit contrasting sharply with the pale terror on her face. She saw the change in Adrian’s Gray-Blue gaze—it wasn't just a boss looking at an employee; it was a profound, almost primal realization. She saw a strange, desperate reaction in his eyes, and the final trace of any residual professional smile evaporated from her face. Her long brown hair seemed to frame a mask of pure dread. Near her coloring books, employee productivity had stopped completely.
Adrian stared at her for several seconds. Through the bright natural live-action realism, the vertical audience could feel the excruciating weight of his gaze. It was a look that questioned every strategic meeting, every late-night report, every shared, silent elevator ride of the last two years. It was a look of complete disbelief and sudden, profound alignment.
Adrian Kane, the unshakeable leader of Manhattan's powerful Kane family, was experiencing raw, unscripted emotion.
He didn't speak. He stared at Julianne as if she held the answer to a question he hadn’t known he was supposed to ask.
Then Adrian whispered. His voice was a bare, hoarse rasp, barely carrying through the silent office:
May you like
“How...?”
Julianne took one small, reactive step back, completely cornered by his expression. Noah, sensing the definitive climax of his mission, only squeezed his stuffed elephant tighter against his chest, waiting.
