Chapter 9 - The Eruption

The banquet hall erupted into absolute chaos.

Glass shattered, women screamed, and corporate executives scrambled out of the way as Arthur Vance slid across the polished parquet floor, bleeding heavily from his broken nose.

Julian Cavanaugh stood up from the head table, his face turning an apocalyptic shade of crimson.

"Caleb!" my father bellowed, his voice echoing through the high vaulted ceiling of the hall. "What is the meaning of this madness?"

Caleb stepped through the broken kitchen doors, his knuckles bleeding, his posture defiant and wild. "He touched Eleanor."

Julian froze. He looked at Vance, who was groaning on the floor, then looked at Eleanor, who had stepped out into the hall to prevent Caleb from attacking further.

The room fell into a suffocating, dead silence. Two hundred of Fairhaven's most influential citizens watched the drama unfold.

"You assaulted my chief counsel," Julian said, his voice dropping into a razor-thin, lethal quiet, "over a housekeeper?"

"She isn't just a housekeeper!" Leo shouted from behind me, his young voice ringing clearly across the hall. "She's worth ten of you! She's worth ten of everyone in this room!"

Julian’s eyes narrowed into slits of pure, venomous fury. The public humiliation of his sons defending a servant over his wealthy legal advisor was more than his monstrous pride could endure.

"Marcus," Julian commanded, gesturing to his head of security. "Remove these boys from the building. Take them to the mansion."

He turned his cold, predatory gaze directly onto Eleanor Hargrove.

"And you," my father whispered, the words dripping with absolute malice. "You are terminated. Get off my property before I have you arrested for inciting a riot."

Eleanor didn't scream. She didn't cry. She stood tall in her dark uniform, looking at my father with pity.

"You can fire me, Mr. Cavanaugh," Eleanor said, her voice carrying across the silent hall with absolute clarity. "But you cannot fix what you've broken in your sons with money."

She turned and walked calmly toward the exit.

"Eleanor!" Toby cried, trying to run after her, but Marcus caught the twelve-year-old by the jacket collar.

Caleb lunged at Marcus, and within three seconds, a full-scale brawl erupted between the Cavanaugh brothers and my father's security team. I threw myself into the fray, hitting security guards, tearing at their suits, desperate to reach Eleanor before she vanished into the rain outside.

Two police cruisers arrived three minutes later, called by the school principal.

When the dust settled, Caleb, Leo, and Toby were dragged into my father's private sedans under armed guard.

I refused to enter my father's car. I hit Officer Miller when he tried to grab my arm, resulting in my immediate arrest and transport to the Fairhaven police station.
