Chapter 6 - The Gym That Trained Him

Trent tried to deny everything for twenty minutes.
Then one of his friends made the mistake of talking.
He said they had only been “messing around” and that Trent wanted footage for a challenge video: get the ex-SEAL dad to snap.
The phrase hit the group like a dropped match.
I had never told the neighborhood what I had done. Only a few people knew I had served, and fewer knew details. Trent had learned it from somewhere and built a plan around humiliating me into violence.
If I struck him, Harry would sue. If I scared him, they would film it. If I did nothing, Trent would keep escalating until Emily felt unsafe in her own room.
So I had done the one thing they did not expect.
I stayed calm.
Harry tried to drag Trent back toward the house, but the crowd had turned into witnesses. Mrs. Donnelly, who ran the homeowners’ association with the energy of a small-town prosecutor, asked for copies of the evidence. Mr. Willis said his security camera likely caught Trent crossing between yards that night.
Then my phone rang.
It was Apex Combat Systems.
I had emailed the gym owner earlier that morning with a formal notice that one of his students was using their affiliation while harassing a minor and trespassing near her bedroom window. Attached were screenshots of Trent wearing the gym belt in several videos.
The owner had now seen enough.
I put the call on speaker only after getting permission.
The voice was calm and furious.
“Mr. Caldwell, your membership is suspended pending review. Do not wear our belt, logo, or identify our gym in any public content.”
Trent stared at the phone.
His whole identity cracked in front of everyone.
Harry exploded.
“You had no right!”
I looked at him.
May you like
“Your son brought the belt to my daughter’s window.”
That shut him up.
