Chapter 1 - The Surprise He Planned

Ricardo Vale flew home to Brazil with a diamond necklace in his pocket and a foolish smile on his face.
For three years, he had lived between airports, boardrooms, restaurant openings, and real estate meetings that stretched across Dubai, Miami, São Paulo, and Lisbon.
He was thirty-five, self-made, and exhausted in the way successful men become when everyone praises their empire but nobody asks what it cost them.
But that night, as his plane landed in São Paulo, none of that mattered.
He was going home.
No announcement.
No phone call.
No driver warning the house staff.

Just a surprise.
For his wife, Camila.
The woman who had married him before the money, before the restaurants, before magazines called him brilliant. She had stood beside him when he owned one failing bistro and drove a car that stalled in traffic. She had believed in him when belief was the only thing they could afford.
So when Ricardo became rich, he promised himself Camila would never feel small again.
He built the mansion in Campinas for her.
He sent money every month.
He left household management to his mother, Dona Lourdes, and his sister Patrícia because they insisted Camila was “too soft” to handle staff, repairs, and accounts.
Ricardo believed them.

That was what he thought.
Until he came home early.
