Chapter 6 - THE FILE CALLED DALLAS

Detectives searched Daniel’s laptop with his consent after he continued insisting the plan concerned only custody preparation.
Inside was a folder labeled DALLAS TRANSITION.
It contained a private-school application for Lily, a lease on a two-bedroom apartment near Daniel’s new office, and a draft petition requesting emergency temporary custody. The document described me as overworked, inattentive, emotionally volatile, and unable to supervise Lily safely while working from home.
None of those claims had been formally filed.
Yet.
Attached were photographs taken by Eleanor inside our house: an open cabinet, spilled cereal, a bruise Lily received at preschool, and a bowl of small magnetic beads arranged near my laptop.
The beads had never belonged to us.
Eleanor had staged them.
There was also a written timeline of supposed “incidents.” Several dates matched afternoons when Eleanor had been the only adult with Lily.
Daniel had allowed his mother to create evidence against me so he could relocate with our daughter without enduring a custody dispute he might lose.
But Eleanor had another motive.
If Daniel obtained temporary custody, he planned to name her as Lily’s daytime guardian while he traveled. Eleanor would become the parent in practice, the role she had always believed I performed incorrectly.
The magnets were supposed to become the final proof.
A child rushed to the hospital after swallowing dangerous objects in her mother’s dining room.
A distracted mother blamed for leaving them accessible.
A frightened father arriving from another state.
A devoted grandmother ready to take charge.

They had written every role.
They had not expected the camera to preserve rehearsal.
