Chapter 4 - THE ARRIVAL OF THE TIGER

For two long, grueling minutes, the garage was filled with nothing but the sound of Rue's gentle voice singing a soft, fragmented lullaby to keep Belle conscious, and the steady, ragged rasp of the child's chest. Rue held Belle's icy hands tightly within her own, ignoring the cold floor that was now numbing her own knees and legs through her thin tights.
Suddenly, a loud, thunderous roar shattered the quiet of the parking structure.
Down on the ramp leading up from the first level, heavy high-performance tires shrieked violently against the painted concrete. The blinding beams of intense LED headlights cut through the dim, yellow lighting of the garage, throwing long, dramatic shadows across the pillars.
Three massive, jet-black Cadillac Escalades burst onto the second level at full speed. Their engines bellowed through the enclosed space, echoing like thunder off the concrete ceiling.
The lead vehicle swung around the corner, its tires smoking, and lined up directly with bay 212. All three vehicles slammed their brakes simultaneously, coming to a violent, synchronized stop ten feet from where Rue was kneeling.
Before the heavy SUVs had even stopped rocking on their suspensions, doors flew open in perfect tactical sequence.
At least eight large men dressed in matching dark tailored suits, heavy coats, and tactical earpieces poured out of the front and rear vehicles. They moved with military precision, instantly fanning out in a wide perimeter around the garage bay, their hands resting inside their heavy overcoats over concealed weapons, their eyes scanning the shadows of the concrete structure.
Then, the rear passenger door of the center black SUV opened.
Harlan Voss stepped out onto the concrete.
He was a physically imposing man in his early forties, well over six feet tall, with a broad, powerful chest and shoulders that filled out a immaculate, custom-tailored black suit beneath a heavy dark cashmere overcoat. He had dark, wavy hair brushed back from a stern forehead, sharp, angular features, a heavy jawline covered in dark stubble, and intense, piercing dark eyes that seemed to burn through the gloom of the garage. He radiated an aura of immense power, absolute control, and lethal capability.
Yet, as his dark eyes swept across the cold floor and landed on his daughter—pale, limp, wrapped in a cheap waitress coat, and cradled in the arms of a stranger—that legendary, unbreakable composure cracked completely.
"Belle!" Harlan gasped.
His voice was no longer a rumble of command; it was a raw, primal cry.

He didn't wait for his security detail to clear the path. He broke into a rapid, heavy stride across the concrete, his expensive leather boots striking the floor with echoing thuds, his dark overcoat flaring behind him like the wings of a predatory bird.
Rue remained kneeling on the floor, holding Belle tightly, her hazel eyes looking up at the towering, terrifying figure charging toward them.
